Benefits
You cannot manage what you cannot measure.
This is what Disk Triage can do for you.
Save Money
According to Gartner a few years ago, the cost to manage disk space was at least 3 to 4 times the cost to acquire it – every year. $100K in and initial disk expenditure equates to 300-400k per year in overhead costs that go unchecked.
Save Time
Disk Triage’s new Massively Multi-Threaded Recursive scanning engine allows Disk Triage to chew through a scan of your disk space faster than most other tools.
Investment Return
Controlled expenditure of your resources and capital, means that it can be re-invested into your infrastructure and business growth.

Disk Triage Version 10 ships with a new Massively Multi-Threaded Recursive engine that will complete scans in a fraction of the time it takes most other tools!! If your computer has many physical cores/threads then you can determine how many you want to allocate to a scan.
This new engine can see speed improvements of up to 20 times older engines, depending on how many threads are used and how deep and wide a directory structure may be. In our testing on simple local drives we have regularly seen speed increases of 6 to 10 times. This speed increase only increased as you start to scan remote drives on NAS and SAN servers. Scans that might have taken 20 hours using older tools, can now be completed in 2 hours or less!!
Disk Triage allows the user to choose which statistics are important to them and how they want to gather them. The user can choose whether to gather the statistics by directory and whether or not to include the sub-directories information in those statistics. These different statistics allow the user to see what makes up their disk space in a wide variety of different ways. Each statistic is gathered by Size and by Number of Files and Disk Triage provides both graph and detailed list views.
Some of the statistics that Disk Triage can gather are:
- Size Stats
- Attribute Stats
- Date Stats
- Time Stats
- Directory Depth Stats
- File Extension Stats
- File Type Stats
- Owner Stats
- File Path Size Stats
- File Name Size Stats
- NTFS Permission Stats
- Various Top ‘10’ Stats
- Activity Stats
Disk Triage provides some of the most detailed permission reporting available. No other directory scanning tool provides this level of NTFS reporting.
As well - Disk Triage has the ability to help you find incorrectly permissioned directories and files. You can tell Disk Triage to show you only the directories that have a different permission than the currently selected directories. This is an immense help to Administrators trying to find out why a user cannot access a file or directory
Disk Triage has over 50+ run time parameters that can be used to automate and schedule your directory scanning process.
Disk Triage allows you to visually compare two saved sizings. You can select any sizing saved to the database – and visually see which directories have increased, decreased, been added and removed. It also works with any of the statistics that were gathered in the sizings.
This is a great feature for showing where things have changed. Very useful when trying to show management why you need more disk space resources or determining where things have changed over time.
As well as the Visual Sizing Comparison, Disk Triage provides a trending feature that allows the user to produce a line chart across multiple sizings – very much like a typical stock symbol. This is a great way to see how various directories and statistics are changing over time. It is also very effective at showing management trending information you will need to justify additional disk space resources.
Disk Triage provides the ability to use the same detailed scanning engine to produce a list of files, which you can take various actions on. You can print the list, export the list to file, delete files, copy files, move files, NTFS Compress them in place, change file attributes, take ownership of files, send to a Zip file – or any custom action you want.
Disk Triage comes with fully customizable canned reports. The reporting tool is very powerful, allowing the user to customize any of the reports that ship with Disk Triage. As well, the Query and Analysis tool has the same reporting tool – allowing the user to create any reports they want.
The user interface for Disk Triage offers a number of ways of customizing the interface. Every Window shown in Disk Triage can be undocked – allowing you to show many different output results at the same time (Tree, TreeMap, Graphs, Lists, etc.).
The input specifications to your disk space scan can all be saved to a file and reused the next time you scan that directory. In fact you can have multiple, separately configured scanning queries saved and reusable with just a mouse click. After all, each directory may need different parameters as the reason you are scanning them may be different.
On top of all its disk scanning features, Disk Triage comes with a very robust query, analysis and reporting tool. Once you have saved a sizing to database, you can launch this tool and run your own queries, analyze your data in a pivot grid and write any custom report against the data that your individual needs require. This takes your reporting needs way beyond any system with just ‘Canned’ reports.
Disk Triage has the ability to scan any disk space that Windows can access. So – if you have a Linux/Unix server and Windows can read its disk space (i.e. NFS, SAMBA, etc.) – then Disk Triage can scan it.
Disk Triage is also capable of scanning a FTP Server! This feature can allow you to see exactly where your website storage is being used and how.
Every graph in Disk Triage can be copied to the clipboard or printed. Where appropriate they can be switched from Pie to Bar and back as the user needs. Also – each graph can be fully customized with 100’s of options, allowing for almost unlimited flexibility and customization.
As well as using the Tree to view the results of a scan - DiskTriage has both a Tree Graph and a Tree Map that are live and linked to the Tree. As you change a directory in the Tree, both the Graph and the TreeMap are updated - and as you click on an element of either the Graph or the TreeMap the Tree is updated.
Disk Triage TreeMap is a simple, clear and interactive view of your scanned disk space. It shows you very clearly which directories are using up the most disk space and even breaks down the directories inside of those. Other products offer TreeMaps, but they are usually so ‘busy’ and cluttered that they don’t provide the information that the user really wants – which is which directories are taking up the most space in a hierarchical view. The TreeMap is also interactive and tied to the tree in Disk Triage – so as you click on different parts of the TreeMap – it updates which directory is highlighted in the tree (and visa versa).
Disk Triage provides the ability to save scanned results to either a local (Embedded Firebird) or server (Microsoft SQL Server) based database. This allows you to use that saved information with other tools such as the Visual Sizing Comparison utility, the Multi-scan charting tool (trending graphs), the query tool, etc. It offers you the ability to create custom queries, reports and analytics.
While many tools will scan your entire directory space, Disk Triage takes this capability to the next level with its disk space querying capability. Disk Triage allows you to create queries into your disk space like the following: Scan the directory structure, including all files, but exclude “*.BAT” and “*.exe” files, the files must have the Normal Attribute set - but not the Off-Line attribute, the files must be over 60 days old, and created between Noon and 2pm, owned by “John Doe”, have a file name of under 20 characters, and be no larger than 5 MB. Files that meet these query conditions are the only ones included in the scan – and will be the only files shown in the Directory Details (file) listing.
